Portobello CLT structure

This was a Gap brown field site which had been bought by a local collective to build their own homes. HMR were invited at an early stage to tender for the works, adn after a lengthy process ended up in an open book negotiation with the collective. A difficult build, involving importing the CLT structure from spain, road closures, and liaising with effectivley 4 clients (owners of each unit), each with their own level of involvement, this was a rewarding project with many new technologies, systems and materials. One of the most satisfying elements was seeing the end product look almost identical to the original "artists impression" from before planning application was granted.

The project was not without its challenges - a tight urban site with structural issues surrounding adjacent buildings; an innovative cross laminated timber structure and a multi headed client team amongst them - but the HM Raitt team, were a pleasure to deal with - good humoured, helpful, diligent and capable. They have been a key element of the project’s success.’
